How to Care for an Amy's Gourmet Caramel Apple

Shelf life is at least 1 week or up to 2  weeks when kept refrigerated. We suggest to eat the apple slightly chilled for best flavor. To slice the apple more easily, remove from the refrigerator one hour before serving. To serve our apples, place a knife 1/2" away from the stick and slice the apple top to bottom. Repeat the same motion on the other side of the apple. Finally, cut the remaining two sides away from the stick. Cut the four pieces as you desire. Every jumbo gourmet apple will yield eight to ten servings. To start your order, simply click on the apples above.

You will never eat a more perfect apple than at Amy's. First, you are idly strolling the streets of downtown Cedarburg. Suddenly you are sidetracked by what can only be described as 'The Mecca of Carmel Apples' towering before you. You are in its tractor beam and it is pulling you in. Do you know why? Because there are Caramel Apples with Gummy Worms and Dirt Cake topping, Cashews, Chocolate and Chili Powder, White Chocolate and Apple Pie Spice, Black Forest, the list goes on and on. You have to see it to understand.

That old adage: You're like a kid in a candy shop - it's a literal statement here. You will most likely ping pong between the racks of apples in the front window, tissue in hand, trying to whittle down your apple choice. Don't sweat it babe, you can't go wrong. Each apple is huge in its diameter, they are heavy and dense Granny Smith's and when you cut into them you will find they are in pristine condition with nary a blemish. How they pick such magnificent apples is a mystery to me. Surrounding the luscious apple is a very generous layer of sweet, buttery, rich caramel and if you went for one of the topped apples, another layer of cookies, nuts, spices, candies, etc. Picking up the apples sometimes requires a backhoe due to their heft. One is certainly enough for two people to share, although sharing, eh, its overrated.....

When finally, you pick your apple, you bring it to the checkout counter, and they box it up for you in a perfectly cute bronze, cube. It's so exciting, getting that little cube, I feel like I am getting a birthday present or something. I need to warn you though, most people on their way up to the counter with their apple in hand will no doubt get distracted by the chocolates that flank the walls and grace the glass counter cases. Luckily, I am a mutant who loathes chocolate and therefore am impervious, however I've seen my fair share of patrons unable to resist the chocolate temptations.

The staff is always nice, and jovial. Although, I suspect they have a contact high being surrounded by all that sugar. I like to imagine them swirling around the kitchen like magical pixies making all the candies and apples with a dusting of love and a spoonful of sugar. Shhh, shhhh, shhhh....don't ruin this little break with reality.

When she received her surprise gift today of your gourmet apples she was excited! She mentioned the large size of the apple, the fresh flavor coating the apple and the apple itself was superb! That made me feel good because she has been a pivotal force in my pursuit of education. I wanted to reward her accordingly and with your help WE made it happen! The pregnant woman was extremely pleased!! Thank you! - Monique A.

I just wanted to let you know my story. I ordered an Easter apple as a gift for my son's girlfriend for Easter. It arrived yesterday and she called me screaming with excitement. She grew up in New Hampshire and had NEVER had a caramel apple before in her life! She was so excited. She said, and I quote, 'like an apple covered in caramel wouldn't be good enough, but then to have it covered in chocolate too, it's like something too good to believe'. My son was amazed that she had never had one either, and fondly told her stories of him growing up and actually MAKING homemade caramel apples. She was instantly jealous! Thanks for an amazing product and for introducing an East Coast girl to the delicacy called caramel apples!

Living right up the street from Amy's can be a dangerous thing! Cedarburg is lucky to have such a gem in our town. Even my 9 year old daughter is hooked on their animal shaped truffles. The apples really do taste even better than they look! Thanks, Amy's! - Pamela W. Cedarburg, WI

Recipe for Making Your Own Gourmet Caramel Apples

Unfortunately we can't provide our secret Amy's recipe for making our signature caramel apples, but we can provide you with an at home method for making them on your own. Below indicates a recipe cited from the Food Network that makes a great 'at home' caramel that goes well with anything.

Total Time: 35 Minutes

Prep Time: 20 Minutes

Cook Time: 15 Minutes

Makes about 8 servings

Ingredients Needed

  • 8 apples of any variety
  • 1 cup chopped peanuts or any topping as desired to use
  • 1 cup heavy cream, divided
  • 3/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Step by Step Directions

Wash and completely dry each apple that you are using to apply caramel to. After clean, skewer a stick or popsicle stick into the apple before adding any caramel to it for easier handling of the apple when dipping.

Line a baking pan with foil and place the chopped nuts or the toppings desired into the pan. Make sure the pan is big enough to withold all of the toppings comfortably for applying to the apple in a later step.

Fit a large-bottomed pan with a thermometer. Over a high heat source, cook only 3/4 of the 1 cup of cream, the 3/4 cup light corn syrup, 1/2 cup of butter and sugar to 280 degrees°F. The syrup will turn golden once you've reached the appropriate heat/mix ratio. Once that is done, remove the pan from the heat source and carefully swirl in the leftover 1/4 cup of cream as well as the vanilla extract. Please be advised that the pan might be very hot so please use extreme caution.

The caramel should now be hot, in which you can dip the apples into the caramel to coat the entire apple while allowing the excess to drip off. Once dipped, you can then dip the bottom of the apple into the baking pan lined with your chopped nuts or toppings and finalize by letting the apple cool on a baking sheet lined with non-stick spray or paper.

Once the apples have cooled, ENJOY YOUR HANDMADE CARAMEL APPLES!
